Summary
"It's opening weekend and we already got a line of snotty toddlers all the way down to Auntie Anne's, so I need you on your shit today, you hear me?" Hank Olson is Stebbins' company-assigned handler. If it were up to Stebbins, he would've arranged to meet with Olson last week during his otherwise brief and uninformative orientation so that they could maybe make introductions before he got back into this ridiculous suit. But wasn't up to Stebbins. Why would it be? He's a brand new hire. So, of course, this is the very first time he and Olson are meeting. The set opens in eleven minutes. "You better be rarin' to rip, Rabbit."
Confused, Stebbins immediately goes to repeat the phrase back to Olson in the form of a question. "I'd bet—?"
"Whoa, hey! Shut your fuckin' carrot flap! Didn't anyone tell you the rules?"

Summary
See, it ain't like Art Baker's any sort of stranger to the heat. Growing up dirt poor in Baton Rouge meant suffering summer after endless summer of thick, swampy humidity and a sun so sweltering it'd sting you like nettles after just a couple of seconds standing beneath it. The worst part of it all had to be how inescapable it was—ain't a single soul on his street had any sort of air conditioning to speak of and window panes alone weren't ever enough to keep out that damp, stifling air.
It's the sort of thing a person just sort of gets used to after a while, Art supposes, especially living so far south for long enough—just like the steady drone of katydids or the sharp bite of a hundred swarming mosquitoes after a heavy rain. But getting used to something's never made it more pleasant before, not in his experience. The thing is, Art expects that sort of thing down home in Louisiana. He doesn't feel like it's all that foolish he thought he might get some sort of break from it all the way up here in Maine, some hundreds of miles north of where he grew up.

Summary
“—the fuck you just say to me?” Gary realizes perhaps a half-second too late that maybe he should watch his tongue, but he wants to know what kind of backwoods, riddle-spitting motherfucker would just waltz up to a guy and say something like that without so much as a ‘hello’ or a ‘fuck you’ first. His gaze narrows. The man moves further forward, hanging the lantern from a hook on a nearby support beam and stepping into the warm yellow light it throws out. The few tufts of blond that Gary can see peeking out from beneath his hat look almost golden in the light. This man, Gary thinks, he looks like the star of some old western—a sharp, clean shaven jaw and a chambray shirt tucked into starched denim. The kind of man his meemaw would’ve fawned over on the television. He walks with a sort of swagger that has Gary’s gaze flickering from his face to his hips and back again before he comes to a stop just in front of him.
“I said—” the bowl is thrust out in a wordless offer, “—you look like you been rode hard and put away wet.”

"The only dial you need to touch is this one to adjust the focus," Stebbins tells the both of them. "Don't touch anything else. I'll know if you do, even if you try to fix it. If you want to move the telescope, you can do so on a horizontal or vertical axis by nudging it gently—"
"Stebbins," Collie says, and his smile is just as tight as his tone now. Art arches a brow curiously as he glances between them. "If you don't get up and leave, I'm about to nudge you gently right off the side of this roof. Go. Now. I'll call you when you can come back for your shit, yeah?"
To his credit, Stebbins does go after that—but not before offering the both of them a withering glare. "Don't break my telescope."

Summary
Billy knows what restriction feels like. He knows it intimately. The weight of responsibility and expectation bears down on him each day from the moment he wakes, a locked cage with shrinking walls and no key. To try and exist against the constant pressure is to breathe against a vice constantly squeezing his lungs. It feels tight in all the wrong ways, the sickening claustrophobia of being trapped in his own body. His own mind. For so long, Billy didn't know how to escape it. He wasn't sure if he ever could.
But Richard knows how.
With every cinch of a knot drawn taut against his skin, Richard Harkness unravels him just a little bit more. It's become a ritual of theirs—not often, not always, but there when Billy needs it most.
