Summary
“The tower may have vital information about Ultima that we could use,” said Jill.
“We hardly explored any of it,” Joshua said thoughtfully. “And having Mid with us will greatly aid in our deciphering of–”
“It’s dangerous,” Clive protested weakly.
“It should be much safer now; we destroyed the Mothercrystal’s heart and the Eikonoklaste guarding it. All the creatures are most likely dead with nothing to power them.”
“But there could still be–”
“Don’t worry about me, I’ll bring my own guardsman,” Mid said blithely.
Clive frowned at her. “What do you mean?”
She jerked her head toward the prince who stood leaning against the wall, close enough to overhear everything they said. Then she turned and called out to him. “Mr. Fancy Pants! You’re coming with!”Jill just wanted them to spend more time together before she had to watch all of them leave for Origin. Joshua and Dion needed more time together. Mid wanted to see some airships. The Sagespire was the answer.

Summary
Phoenix Gate goes a bit differently, Ultima needs to take different paths to his goals, and Joshua doesn’t believe in himself, to put it lightly. Also, the Blight is much delayed and has only started to happen, and people have discovered that ground up crystals are fun to snort.
Joshua and Dion will eventually find a way to a true version of each other, but they fumble (a lot) at first.

Summary
"Phoenix," he breathed, the gladness rising in his chest. "You are…alive."
Alive?
Dion saw the colors, the flame in the hair and the blue-green eyes. But it was all no more than watercolor, faint and translucent against the dead slate of the sky and the dark wood of the ship.
He could see through Joshua.
"Only just," Joshua replied, the gentle drop of his voice on the last word the same as the last time he had said it to Dion. He smiled sadly. "The same, it seems, as you."
After Origin, Dion and Joshua each have their own reasons for being reluctant to come back to the land of the living. Each serves as a guide to the other on a voyage through what they'd be missing, and of course they find each other on the way.

Summary
The Phantom Thieves have nearly secured their route through Maruki's Palace. There’s only one section left: The Twilight Corridor. A paradise where everything is perfect, and everyone is always smiling.
In order to enter that place, the Thieves must first prove they've "completed orientation" and can be "happy." There are points, there is a scoreboard, and they’re locked together in an experimental space where wishes can be granted by simply saying them aloud. Everyone has to individually earn 100 happiness points, or no one is leaving.
So what is “happiness,” really? How does Maruki define happiness? What the hell is a quantifiable happiness point? Is there any way around this? Don’t these stupid kids realize this is a trick to get them to fall back into the thrall of Maruki’s reality? And why can’t Goro earn any fucking points?
(Or: I've been watching too much Dropout Game Changer and I’ve built an Akechi torture chamber.)
