Summary
For Simon Blackquill, accepting the fact he was going to die was stretched out over a little longer than seven years. 88 months. 2,630 days.
Just imagining it was enough to leave Simon digging his nails into his palms. The gruelling silence of his final weeks left more than enough time to stew over it all: The lack of respect; the dangers still posed; and the realization that, for all Simon had tried to ready himself for the outcome and steer the situation himself, he never held any real sway. Whether he’d chosen to protect his family with his confession or with blade in hand, it would have ended with him staring at his grave.
With the dates all finalized, his affairs all sorted, there was one thing left to consider: Would he allow himself to be pushed to it, or would he fall in himself?

This work absolutely hits the heart... it's a glimpse into Simon that will stick with me for sure. Reading about Simon's hope fluctuating. His repeated arguments with Aura, the desperation. The way he allows Taka the freedom he can't have. The comparisons to samurai. The monstrous irony of "But at the end of the day, when asked who you'd rather have the power to send fourty volts through you, better to put one's trust in someone who understands sympathy."
The plan to end his life was harder to stomach than I expected (that's how well it was written); even though I knew it'd never happen, the dread and heartbreak were still there in the back of my mind. I think it was handled very well though, and the way Athena found out about it and the way they both handled it was a balm. It felt like being outside in cool air under white-gray sky, in a good way. It was peaceful... I really really appreciated it. He's got a long journey ahead of him to begin healing and, in the end, I look back at this work with stronger feelings of hope.(also, the bit about Lang granting Edgeworth clearance in the interpol's investigation on the Phantom is part of my canon now)

I am being damaged in the sweetest way possible. This is so beautiful. My chest is in the verge of shattering with the pressure I feel to cry. It packs so many feelings and it's so human- it hurts so much and I'm not fine! But at the same time I am? I'm at a point where I can only cope with this by visualizing that Clay will be fine, that Apollo will not lose himself while looking back on his memoriesor one can always draw/write Apollo going batshit insane after his loss, that should also help ease the pain.The whole thing is just me glad and relieved and emotional that they have each other... with a speck of dread creeping up behind me. Transgender, autistic Apollo and aromantic claypollo, you've got it all here.
