You can’t slow down or you’ll fall.” He mimics the movement with his hands. He loves doing that. Flitting gestures with his hands. I like it, too – it makes his stories more mesmerising. I close my eyes, try to imagine what he was describing. Comparing it against my own imagination. “Or drift, I suppose. But that’s letting gravity control you. And in the sky, you must seize control. That’s how we fought the dragons. We stole their domain right out of the sky.”

He helps fend them off with the intention of robbing him and taking all the spoils himself; only to be made an offer he can't refuse.
Lloyd, a highborn angel from the Temple, is on one of his frequent escapades when he becomes fascinated by a charmless crow who has a smile that makes the recipient want to jump into a river. Well, not that he'd ever seen him smile. But Lloyd has a certain... knack for people that gets them smiling soon enough.
And so a twisted friendship is born.

A spider discreetly spins its home in a nook of the flaking plaster ceiling. A cockroach skitters from the marrow of the pipes as you open the cabinet and retrieve an old tube of toothpaste – scissored and plastic-wrapped to reveal a maw glistening with blue substance. You ignore the way your gaze lingers on the razor buried away in its dank recesses – begging to be used. In vain.
“This is a better reality,” you say aloud as you zip-tie the cabinet shut.
