Summary
Kleya has done this calculus herself, more than once, wrapped in shadows and wielding information like a poison-dipped dagger. But it’s startling here, in the shining halls of the Alliance, rubber stamped by the Chancellor.
There’s no fighting it.

Summary
“You don’t have to tell me,” Vel says.
That, Kleya didn’t expect. Maybe Vel has pried enough of her secrets out and lost her appetite for more, exhausted by them.
(Three times Kleya tells Vel the truth, and one time she doesn't.)

Summary
“Should just cut it,” Kleya says. “If you have shears.”
She does, has cut her own hair with them. Mon’s, too, just once.
She thinks, then, of Cinta on Ghorman. Hair cropped, beautiful.
“I don’t,” Vel lies.

Summary
There was a loneliness that had nestled itself deep within her, seemingly from the moment she stepped foot on this planet. It hovered over her like a specter in that medical tent, disappearing only when Cassian came to see her and again when Vel found her in the forest.
Then, Cassian died. Then, Vel left. Then, Kleya was left alone on a planet full of strangers.

Summary
Kleya had just told her she was working. Which for her meant it was no doubt a ‘fate-of-the-galaxy’ type mission. And that meant when she said ‘they’ were watching, it most likely meant this seedy establishment Vel had just blindly walked into was probably even more dangerous than she’d realized.
But somehow, what raced through her veins wasn’t exactly fear. It was—something headier and much more primal than that. It was like a live wire. Sparking to life right in her chest.
And Vel found herself digging her fingers into Kleya’s thighs. Holding onto her.
“What do you need me to do?” She kept her voice low.
But then Vel squeaked in surprise when Kleya caught her chin and forced her head back. Forced her to look in her eyes. She looked stern. No nonsense. Still like the Kleya Vel remembered under all this—well, she wasn’t wearing much to hide under, actually. But, it was still as if she was in disguise. But more with her—actions. Her aura. The way she moved.
Someone new and yet—somehow the same. Still as stubborn. As infuriating. As—beautiful as ever.
“Make it look good.”After leaving Luthen's Axis network--Vel is adrift. Without purpose. Then--she runs into Kleya. At a strip club.

Every loss is different. Every one’s the same. Kleya hears it anyway.
Or, the escape from Coruscant takes a physical toll on Kleya, and her rebellion is forced into a different shape. But even away from the Alliance, she has friends everywhere.

Summary
Before them, their destination rises out of the cliffs. A villa. The remains of one, high and marooned against the backdrop of blue. Walls partially crumbled, the half destroyed arches of its spine; a house reaching towards the sky without a roof. The bones of history, stacked up in brick dust mortar centuries ago. Hands long dead easily traced in the architecture.
- On the brink of World War II, Kleya and Luthen travel to Italy and find a beautiful diplomat, her ineffectual husband, and a small blonde woman ready to burn down the whole country.
or, Kleya and Luthen are archaeologists who do some spying on the side.
