This was good. Achingly bittersweet but also lovely. Basically deals with Lio who still has moments where his trauma affects him and the tears just won't stop, and how Galo is helpless and unsure on how to help but tries his best anyway.

The Burnish have few leaders, and so many duties fall to the leader of Mad Burnish simply because there's no one else to do them. Lio takes them seriously, each and every one, and so the Burnish continue to come to him even after the world changes again.
One of those duties is to perform weddings.

FAV FAV FAV!
-Heart-wrenchingly sweet in such subtle yet piercing ways.
-Love the author's voice?? (and I do feel that it's essentially THEIR voice that they've lent these characters; that shaped these gestures and words.) Like, the opening scene where we're seeing through Galo's observation @ Lio having this particular tick when he's about to ask a question - I really liked how that all played out. The list of questions he's asked. Something small like that... yet I felt like I've gone through 5k of backstory just from the lines in that scene alone. It was so good! And that was the least of it because this entire story has so many of those tiny yet resonating moments. SO MANY.-Lio's speech!!!!!! Ahhhhh!!! Blew me away.
-The way this author writes Galo.... has to be among my favourite takes. They're so good at conveying his kindness/thoughtfulness in deceptively simple, throwaway sentences that somehow manages to paint more story than a whole paragraph. Example of a great line:
(He thinks more than he'd like about the cave, and Lio saying that the Burnish need to eat as much as any human. He wishes he hadn't said that; he doesn't want to rush into saying something like that again. He'll rush in better directions.)-Devastatingly lovely. I would go over every other line several times, over and over, because of how GOOD I thought they were.
-There's a sense of stability and ease with how GaloLio was written here. I loved that.
EDIT: Author has this particular way of writing Galo that's incredibly distinct (I've not seen this in anyone else's) and theirs is currently one of my fav Galos that I've come across in fics so far. I love how casually, thoughtlessly kind he is. Like, in an intrinsic way? (Which is very HIM.) And there's just this underlying tone of gentleness surrounding him, always. So good.

Love the part where Arthur takes care of Merlin, ever so patient and careful but also cautious of how the kidnapping might have affected their relationship. Also love the bit with Hunith and the brooch. And Merlin and Arthur's talking, and the ending was oh so sweet.
I just really love how Arthur is in this fic.

He can’t mean what Merlin thinks he means—right? It’s just Merlin’s imagination running away with him, too many nerves this morning, a lack of sleep, the disorientation of being in such an unfamiliar place, or something, that’s it. Merlin edges slightly, subtly back toward the door, but the boy sees his movement and grins even wider like it’s some secret joke, laughs, “Oh, relax,” and strolls forward to easily follow his steps, lingering even closer than before. “I’m not some deranged lunatic,” the boy says, but the very lascivious gleam in his eye ruins it by definitely, definitely claiming otherwise.

I really adore this author's writing-style. Though I don't usually care much for the 'closeted Arthur' trope, oh my gosh, that confession near the end & the epilogue was utterly ADORABLE. It was just really endearing and very 'Arthur' and makes up for all the frustrations over Arthur denying the depths of his feelings. Just for that confession scene and the little extra afterwards, I just had to put this story as a favourite. Really, really lovely ending.

Merlin was counting down to Move-In Day/Freedom – but then he found a cat under his porch, and his last summer in Camelot got turned upside down by new friends, old wounds, and the potential for better days than he ever could have imagined.

It starts off okay and then gets SUPER adorable as it goes on, especially towards the end, when Merlin & Arthur got together. I liked the references towards 'Young Avengers' that pop up a lot in the story.
