“I accept your terms,” is all Megumi says, and although it comes out of his gritted teeth as if he’d rather do anything else in the world, the King of Curses smiles, a devious show of white teeth and sharp canines. He wishes Sukuna was as ugly as his reputation, with missing teeth and wrinkles and a large belly— but he is just the opposite, and somehow, it just makes Megumi hate him more.

In no man’s land, the angel and the devil on the man’s shoulder were at war. The dead eased the side of him that craved power, while the living toyed with the strings around his heart and struggled to keep him at bay.
Ryomen Sukuna, Lieutenant of the Saitama prefecture of Japan before the world fell to its knees, stood in the center of a parking lot on the far outskirts of the city. The smoldering asphalt was aged and an ash-gray from years of exposure to weather erosion and the scorching sun rays.
The air was dry on the tip of his tongue, distasteful, full of anguish and despair. Around him lay the bodies of strangers he once swore to protect, with skin melting off their bones and blood boiling a deep brown on the asphalt. Some of which he had killed—if that’s what you could call ending the second life of the dead. A hunting knife dripped red from the point of its blade, pooling beside his muddy boot.
Sukuna squeezed the handle, leaning down to tear a piece of clothing off his victim’s back—or... should he be the one called a victim?—and used it to wipe the stain from the shimmering silver blade.
