Paladin Mike’s jaw tightened. “I do not own him,” he said immediately. “He is—” He stopped, swallowing. His eyes went back to Will softening, and that softness made Mike hate him even more. He could recognize the look, and saw it mirrored in his own eyes countless times.

“He is the Light. By your oath, I am bound to him. My liege.” He bowed his head slightly toward Will, his mouth wrapped around the word like it was a prayer. “My cleric.” He said after, softer.
“Oh my god.” Will flushed, impossibly. “That is crazy. He is actually crazy."
Max, who had been standing with her arms crossed behind them, muttered, “Jesus Christ,” under her breath.
Mike Wheeler is going to explode, because there is an alternate, armoured version of him, following Will Byers around like he belonged to him.

Joyce’s eyes widen in surprise when she sees him. Her inquisitive gaze makes him feel small, standing hunched over on her porch in the dim afternoon light. He must look pathetic— like a dog that’s been left out in the rain. “Mike,” she says, her voice laced with mock-cheer. He wishes she would just cut the act already. Kick him to the curb like she clearly wants to. “I wasn’t expecting you.”

“Isn’t that lonely?” Max had asked early on in their friendship, after Lucas and Dustin had offhandedly mentioned his aversion to affection. Mike couldn’t even be mad at them for having brought it up. It wasn’t typically a topic they avoided; it was simply a given. A rule. Mike was to be left out of group hugs and celebratory pats on the shoulder. To Max, however, it seemed to be a mystery.
Mike hadn’t really thought of it as lonely. He never saw hugs as something he was missing out on. He didn’t crave them like Will seemed to. He simply did not care.
At least, he usually didn’t.

His thumb mapped Will's side of the face, feeling from his cheekbone to his jawline and looking in awe, wiping stray tears every once in a while.
“Crazy together." Will finally responded, leaning into Mike's touch.
