But the tendrils of the idea kept creeping through and, before he knew it, had firmly taken root ‘til he couldn't ignore it any longer; he's made a mistake which must be fixed.
He's forty-three, rich as Croesus, and he's been so busy getting richer for the last twenty years that he quite forgot to get married. Something that he intends to rectify as soon as possible.

She doesn’t like parties without George at her side to murmur sharp little asides to, or bring her champagne, or dance with her when the song is slow enough. She doesn't like parties where everyone looks at her like she's a three-legged puppy because her husband- her ex-husband- stays glued to the opposite side of the room as though she's got a forcefield around her.
In which Bertha and George are divorced, and make it everyone else's problem.
