Summary
Upon turning, she was struck by the appearance of a man who was the source of memories which were not particularly unpleasant, but she couldn’t help but recoil, not expecting to see him. It had been what– ten years? Ten years had passed since the engagement had been broken and her fiancé had fled to India to chase some business opportunity. The man who stands before her is not the man who had abandoned her; instead, it is a man she once considered a friend.
He stands, white hair unruly, jutting out from the brim of his top hat. He’s dressed like every other mourner, but is as pale as the snow which covers the ground. His eyes were an unnatural, piercing crystalline shade of blue. His lips formed a gentle crescent. He grips the end of a walking stick, which has an elaborate blue and silver handle, featuring the insignia of his family.
“Miss Ieri,” he says. She stumbles backwards, almost tripping over her skirts. His face is bright and handsome as ever.
“Duke Gojo,” She says, slowly. The mourners pause, drawn to the strange exchange between the two. “What are you doing here?”
