Summary
Nico shoved his phone back into his pocket and glanced around the station again. Hearing the announcement for the arrival of his train, he picked up his worn duffel bag, slung it over his shoulder, and headed towards the platform.
As he waited for the train to come to a complete stop, resentment spiraled inside him. The thought of spending his summer at some random camp, surrounded by strangers, was the last thing he wanted.
Once on board, Nico found an empty seat by the window. He watched the cityscape slowly fade into the countryside, trying to distract himself with the passing scenery. His thoughts, however, kept drifting back to his family.
He couldn't understand how his father could be so indifferent, how Persephone could be so cruel, and why his life had taken such a harsh turn after his mother’s and Bianca's deaths.

He panted softly, staring down at the boy as the life started to ebb from his body. He was quite beautiful, now that the moonlight lit his face. His hair was dark and long, tied back in a messy ponytail which had started to come loose from the way he'd been struggling. His lips were pink despite his pale olive skin and his eyes were dark and large, round and full of fear.

When Annabeth was killed by a bitter Roman soldier a few weeks after the Giant War was won, Percy went berserk with grief. Nico knew he needed to get to Percy immediately, when he felt her spirit pass into the Underworld. Nico didn’t think about the disastrous effects this could have on the camps. He had no way of knowing that this one event might reach far past the borders of the camps. Nico’s only thought was to find Percy.
