After his originally projected healing in the Dawn Court takes nearly twice as long as planned, Flint Calloway discovers upon his return to Velaris that his friend has gone missing. She'd been absent from all of her frequent haunts, and her apartment building demolished. In a panic, he goes to the House of Wind looking for answers, and while Nesta tries to insist that everything is fine, that she's happy with her new life with her mate, he can tell there's something more to it. And after failing her once, he refuses to let her face whatever it is that she's struggling with alone.

Past tense on all of that.
Because yesterday, she’d come home early from a work trip to surprise Tomas, only to find him very enthusiastically not surprised, and very enthusiastically occupied with his paralegal, Claire, in their California King bed with the Egyptian cotton sheets Nesta had picked out.
The bed that Tomas had paid for, in the apartment that Tomas’s name was on the lease for, because Nesta had moved in with him eight months ago, instead of looking for a new place together.
