Emory sat in couch of their shared apartment, biting his nails. His posture, usually confident and carefree, was tense. The lights from all kinds of buildings in the city got in through the giant window in the living room and the skyline that usually gave him peace was now great cause of anxiety. Because he knew Avery, his best friend of years, was out there somewhere. Probably having fun with a gorgeous girl. The thought tightened his chest and he forgot how to breathe for a second, suddenly feeling very nauseous. A good friend would be happy for him, but a good friend probably wouldn't be in love with him.

Rumi bit her lip nervously, watching the demon from a distance. She should be completely out of her mind to agree to meeting him again.
Jinu was on the edge of the same roof they met a few nights before, hands in his pockets and staring at the city, apparently lost in thoughts. She checked the perimeter a few times, just to make sure no more demons were lurking in the dark, but he was alone. Again. Just standing there.
“So… what do you want tonight?” She asked impatiently, raising a hand and petting the tiger as he walked to Jinu.
“Like I said before, I just wanna talk.” he shrugged.

Carefully, her fingers started working on untying the hair band at the tip of her long purple braid.
The girl heard the soft familiar steps before the quiet knocks at her door. Not that it was needed, because the door was wide open, but she appreciated the thought. Rumi counted a few rapidly raising heartbeats, too aware of everything his proximity made her feel and the weight of his stare on her back, making it almost difficult to breathe.
“Need some help?” Jinu asked and somehow she knew he was resting against the door, arms crossed.
For half a second, the boy thought he imagined her shy nod. But when she scooted on the bed making some space for him, he realized it was real. -

Maybe a few of his best moments in Basgiath could be seen as luck by others, but not for him. He had trained since the day they knew about the deal who sealed his - and the other 106 children of the rebellion - destiny. The moment death stopped being a certainty and became a possibility. But in that small room made of dark stone, with Jesinia sitting by the desk hunched over a book, he felt pretty lucky.
