Nobles had crowded every balcony and terrace carved into the mountains of Dragonstone.Their silks and cloaks thrashing wildly as all of them craned their necks skyward as dragons flew overhead like gods of Old Valyria reborn.

The scent on the sticky note was a soft, cloying sweetness that smelled of vanilla and submission, a stark contrast to the jagged, electric tension that always existed between Duncan and Aerion. To Aerion, it smelled like an intruder. It smelled like someone trying to occupy a space that, regardless of legal decrees and signed papers, still belonged to him.
