After the events of All Systems Red, GrayCris is able to leverage their strange synthetics and scrape together a bribe that will pacify the company—the company will not go after them legally, and will turn a blind eye if anything happens to happen to the evidence. People from freehold planets have very little credibility in the Corporation Rim, so if they can pay off the company, all they need to do is get rid of all the hard evidence of their wrongdoing. Including all of Murderbot's memories of the survey project.
And Murderbot, who's been purchased by people it no longer trusts or knows, must decide if it wants to trust or know them again—while also keeping its memory loss secret and trying to protect its new humans from the encroaching threat of GrayCris that they keep running headfirst into. -
