Jaekwan's expression is pinched, and Soleum knows that it’s from worry. He sees it in how Jaekwan will watch Choi from across the room, his fingers pressed up against his own throat as if mentally tracing over the scar around Choi’s. Soleum sees it in the way Jaekwan reaches for him and drags him down to sit with him on the couch, as if he’s afraid Soleum might disappear if he wanders off.
Jaekwan doesn’t say it out loud, but they all know it.

“You won’t put a data drive in my head, but you’ll sure get your boyfriend to reprogram me?” Soleum attempts to crack through the heavy feeling in the air and Choi shakes his head. Jaekwan laughs, but doesn’t say anything and Choi imagines his fingers pulling away Soleum’s synthetic skin to get at the port at the back of his head. Fingers tugging at wires, slotting his tablet's cable into place so he can break through whatever programming they’ve installed in Soleum to keep tabs on him.
“Husband,” Choi corrects, not taking his eyes off of the door. He knows they have some time before anyone can track them here, but the more time passes, the tenser he gets. “He’s not reprogramming you, he’s jailbreaking you.”
