The grin faltered, then slipped, then vanished. Brian looked lost again. He licked his lips. “Wasn’t in the states. I was, uh…” He looked out the garage door, eyes scanning the street. “I was in Colombia.” The way he said it, sort of dreamy, he might as well have said, I was on the moon.

Brian thought, this is it. He’d somehow expected this to go on longer. When this deal first started to take shape, it was nothing but a blowjob with a gun to his head.
