Summary
The elevator lurches once, then stalls. The emergency light flickers weakly, casting Robby and Whitaker in a dim, red glow before plunging them into near-total darkness. The only sound is their breathing—Whitaker’s still too fast, Robby’s measured, deliberate.
"You knew this might happen?" Whitaker asks.
"Yeah," Robby says. "Big storms like this fuck with the hospital's generators. We were lucky we got this far."
"Lucky," Whitaker echoes, the word coming out too soft.Robby and Whitaker get stuck in an elevator during a storm, and three weeks of tension catches up to them.

The path is increasingly unsteady, then, with her rucksack and the tent and assorted camping gear hanging off her front, and Wei Ying clinging to her back like a limpet. Lan Zhan can feel the warmth of her skin against where her shirt has ridden up a little. She should have tucked it in better. Wei Ying rests her head on her shoulder and keeps up a running commentary on the woodlands, the rumbling in her stomach, the closed tube line that had stopped her from arriving at Lan Zhan’s on time, the awful show she had seen last week. Lan Zhan indulges in a little smile. There are only squirrels and moss to see them here.
They emerge from the treeline, and Wei Ying shrieks and throws herself from Lan Zhan’s back, sprinting down across the beach with her hands in the air. “Holy shit! Holy shit, Lan Zhan, this is where we’re camping?”

Summary
Set in modern day London. As a member of the Gusu Institute, Lan Zhan plays his part on keeping the spiritual peace in the metropolis. Wei Ying left the Institute a long time ago, but from time to time they still work together and Lan Zhan mourns the closeness they once had.
Lan Zhan calls Wei Ying in on a strange case at the British Museum. Events conspire to shatter the careful barriers they have erected. So much pining. Some case fic. Emotional rollercoaster with a happy ending. Some critique of the museum as an imperialist institution.

“I haven’t really been to a wedding where I’ve, uh… let loose. But, hey,” Dennis shrugged, “maybe I’m doing it wrong.”
“If I hadn’t already agreed to go to this conference, I’d offer to go with you,” Robby said casually. “Show you how it’s done. I’ve got a good track record as a plus-one, too.” Dennis had to say something. To interrupt. To shut this down. But what was he supposed to say? No, you can’t be my plus one, because I lied about my cousin, and there is no wedding, and it seems a little weird to bring a date to a fucking funeral– “Apparently parents love it when you bring home a doctor.”
And just like that, the bubble popped.
“I’m not gay,” Dennis snapped.
He had never hated the sound of his own voice as much as he did right then.

Or, Dennis is anxiously headed home for a "wedding" in Broken Bow, Nebraska, the details of which are increasingly fuzzy. Robby's got a medical conference in Omaha that same weekend. So they carpool. Seventeen hours both ways in an enclosed space with no way out except a tuck and roll. This'll go great. -

Robby’s gaze roamed across Dennis's face, tracing the planes and sharp angles of his features like he was trying to commit them to memory. He already had a long time ago. The horrible, aching knot in his chest dedicated to Dennis was a piece of Robby that he tried, time and time again, to rip out. Always to no avail.
If he had anything to come back for, it’d be this one thing.
"Marry me," Robby said.
Robby, about to head out for his sabbatical and never return, thinks to hell with it—nothing matters except for the very real, very inappropriate feelings he's been harboring for his first-year resident. So he proposes. And before he can take it back, Whitaker says yes.
