    Summary

January of 1992. The fifth year since Jane Hopper died in front of Dustin and the Party and disappeared forever.

Dustin is restless. He graduated early from MIT just because there was nothing else to do. He receives an invitation to complete his PhD in Oxford and books it there as fast as he can. But England is pretty much just as boring as America. Until he sees Jane Hopper at his local grocery store. It's not really her, though. It can't be. Right?

(In which Dustin finds a girl he thought he'd lost forever and stays by her side as she learns to choose herself)

Title from "Let Light be Light" by Lizzy McAlpine, a song that made me cry when I listened to it while writing this fic because it was so perfect for it.

    Summary

She gives a crooked little smile, turns the magnets around, and presses two like poles together. They push apart.
“I like gravity better.” She says it as if it were a favorite ice cream flavor.
    “Oh, yes?”
Everything inside him is warm and lit, and Dustin feels like he’s inflating like a balloon.
“Um-mm. Maybe gravity is the universe wanting everything to get closer.”
Dustin laughs involuntarily, and Jane laughs too. He opens his mouth with a prepared speech, because this is an absurd idea. Scientifically speaking, it doesn't make sense.
    But emotionally? Philosophically?
    Metaphorically…
It’s kind of beautiful too. It makes Dustin’s chest ache in a way that also doesn’t make sense.
It’s like Jane is able to soften the sharp edges of the rules. She gives meaning to reason.
Then he stops halfway. She looks at him and even with the basement's shitty lighting that prevents him from seeing the exact colour of her eyes, Dustin finds her so beautiful. So entirely full of reason and meaning and magnetism and gravity.

    or
Five times Jane Hopper asked about the universe, and one time Dustin finally asked back.

    Summary

“I can stay,” you decide. Bloody knuckles never been so soft, now leaning a question against your wrist. You turn your palm upside and there you feel the perfect slot of his fingers between yours: it’s a shape you can hold without dropping. You’re the red on his hands, but not the blood.

    Summary

"Ah, yes," he deadpans. "Our brother, Jonathan 'pink ruins my aesthetic but I won't explicitly say that or I'll sound like a snob' Byers has a hot pink shirt with printed white stars in pattern all over it."

She continues to stare wide eyed at him, if possible going even wider. He starts to lose his faux annoyance from confusion.

"What?" he asks. "Is it my shirt or—"

"Our brother," El cuts in, eyes the size of saucers. "You called him our brother."

Will doesn't get it. "Cause.. he is? Our brother."

    Summary

Mike's not stupid. Tammy is a methaphor. A placeholder name. Will's 'Tammy' is a boy, a boy who isn't like him, apparently. A boy whom he's pined over, aching and cried over, no matter what Will says about it being some 'crush.'

Mike knows Will like he knows the sky is blue, or that the sun is a bright yellow deadly laser. From the fidgeting of his hands, the silent resignation in his pretty hazel eyes that always seem to fill with tears, when Mike can do nothing to stop it. For some reason, Will is lying to himself. Or perhaps just to them, to soften the blow.

'Tammy' isn't a crush. Will is in love with a boy who can't return it, devastatingly so. Even as he smiled he'd looked heartbroken, accepting but ruined.

or, Mike has always wanted to give Will everything he wants.
