Summary
The year is 1942, and Europe is at war. Captain Victor Nikiforov, an intelligence operative for the NKVD, has been trapped in Berlin by the German invasion of the USSR. “Right,” Ivan nods in mock-seriousness, standing at the end of the bed and peering over Lovro with a devastating smile that Lovro wants to kiss right off. “So you bought a vinyl for some unknown reason and never listened to it?”
“Of course I listened to it. Why waste the money if I’m not going to listen to it?”
“So you bought a vinyl so that you could listen to music that you don’t like?”
“Yes.”
Ivan nods, so patient, hands on his hips as he tilts his head. “And what were you doing whilst listening to this vinyl of music you don’t like?"

Summary
Lovro wasn’t really a gentleman in the truest sense, though he tries his hardest, because Ivan was Ivan and he deserved nice things and sugar-sweet words and all the old-fashioned chivalry of a Prince Charming.
But Ivan? Ivan is a real gentleman.
-or, the five times ivan acts like the perfect, respectful gentleman to lovro, and the one time he doesn’t (and lovro really, really likes it).

Ivan tugs him by the hand, making Lovro stumble into the open cradle of his seated legs. “C’mon, bro,” he complains.
“I’m not your bro, Lovro,” Ivan says, voice low. His eyes are trained intently on Lovro. “I’m not Jakov.”
