Summary
Everything that had happened during the prime of Dostoevsky's plans had crashed upon Ranpo in ways all his hundreds of cases solved prior hadn't before. In part, it was the mental strain it had caused him, with little time to catch up on rest, to recharge. But Poe thought it was how it had affected Ranpo's friends that had taken the most toll on him.
That was why Poe had suggested he helped Ranpo take a short break from it all. He had asked Fukuzawa first, because Ranpo was a crucial to win their case in court. But Fukuzawa had readily agreed, seemingly just as worried for Ranpo as Poe was.
However… though Ranpo had decided to join Poe on the little outing, his feet remained planted on what used to be Agency grounds.

Summary
It's late enough that, when Kaveh places his pencil down, final revisions done, he does not worry about waking Alhaitham. He stares blearily at his papers, then decides to tidy them up tomorrow.
He makes himself stand, grabbing the car keys and making his way to the front door of their shared apartment. As he unlocks the door, one hand on the handle, he hears footsteps behind him.
"You're going to crash the car in that state," Alhaitham says.
Kaveh startles so badly he drops his car keys, pivoting and knocking his elbow against the handle in the process.

Though Venti had only been with them for so long, his absence ate away at Ranpo more than he had expected it to.
When Venti suddenly disappeared one night, Ranpo knew immediately what had happened. It wasn't that hard to figure out—according to Venti, his appearance in Yokohama had been just as abrupt. Still, Ranpo stared at the empty space in their bed beside himself for several long minutes.

Venti had a habit of sitting by the window during the early mornings, letting the gentle winds breeze around him. He would watch something in the distance, and Ranpo thought he must be missing Mondstadt terribly. It had been so long since Ranpo had found him on the streets of Yokohama, wearing the most curious attire, and trying in vain to fly.

"I know," Dazai said regardless. His eyes crinkled with the way he grinned. He squeezed Kunikida's hands. "You forget I've never fit into societal expectations."
