Suguru didn’t expect to stay at this house party very long. He hadn’t taken two steps before someone accidentally-on-purpose slammed their shoulder into his.
“Watch where you’re going, asshole!” He turned and saw who had done it, though he probably could’ve guessed even without looking. The bane of his life — Satoru Gojo, prodigy physics major, darling of the basketball team and professional douchebag.
“Suck my dick, Suguru,” he tossed back, with an obnoxiously casual air. For years, he’d seemed to delight in using every stereotypical tactic to torment Suguru. It was honestly childish— almost like that old cliché of a little kid who doesn’t know how to deal with the fact that he likes a girl, so he pulls her hair and pushes her into mud puddles. He supposed it was possible someone halfway through university might still be stuck at that same level of emotional maturity. This could be an interesting experiment.
“Sure,” he replied.

“no, no,” gojo cuts him off, impassioned. geto can’t figure out what fraction of this tirade is acting and what is genuine. he suspects the two of those things are closely entwined. “just say that you don't care whether our child has sexy, likable parents or not. just tell me why you don't love our child, suguru?”
“i -” gojo is about to step away, rolling his eyes, when geto grabs his wrist. without resistance, gojo lets himself be pulled back, a twinkle in his eye suggesting his knowledge of his triumph.
“yes?”
“thirty five.”

“Technically?” Satoru repeats. “The fuck does that mean?”
“Well, yes, yesterday was my birthday. But it isn’t a big deal -”
“Isn’t a big deal?”
Shoko chuckles as she pours a handful of coffee beans into the canister. “Oh, boy.”
“Your birthday isn’t about you, Suguru! It’s a chance for people to show you how much they appreciate you! It’s a chance for them to show you how much they care, and you - you robbed me of that, you jerk!”
Turning to Shoko, he adds, “Can you believe this?”
“Not at all,” she deadpans, grinning. “Suguru, you asshole.”
Suguru hates them both so much.
Suguru Geto has always hated his birthdays. Meeting Satoru Gojo makes them infinitely better.
