"I'm cold," Est whispered, his voice cracking.
"Then I'll hug you tightly until you're warm again."
Est looked at William a moment longer, searching his face. "You left me..." A fresh wave of tears washed down his cheeks, hot against the freezing rain.
He leaned closer, gently resting his forehead against Est's, letting their shared warmth breathe life back into the dark.
"I know, and I hate myself for it," William pleaded, his hands rubbing soothing circles into Est’s damp shoulders.
"Please look at me, baby. I am right here. I’m not going anywhere."
"Promise?" Est asked, his voice fragile.
"Promise," William said, punctuating the vow with a soft, lingering kiss against his lips.
"Pinky promise?" Est pulled his hand out, showing his small pinky finger.
William let out a breathless laugh, the sound filled with pure adoration.
"Pinky promise," he agreed, interlocking their fingers.
