Summary
Mike's life is perfectly normal. He's a perfectly normal, well-adjusted, absolutely-not-traumatized teenager in 1989. He is liked. He has friends. His parents like him. And his friends' parents like him even. His life is perfect, happy, and comfortable. No one would hate him here. There is asbolutely nothing here that would make him miserable! NOTHING!
Mike gets to have a normal high school life. Terrible teachers, hanging out with friends, applying to college, girls, and PROM! All he needs to worry about is who his date will be. And who shall she be? Who is the lucky girl? There surely wouldn't be any boys on his mind, that's preposterous! That wouldn't be normal then, wouldn't it?
Mike's life is perfect. He should be grateful for all that I've done for him. He should be happier now.
Mike is living the dream!

Summary
December rolls around, as it usually does every year, and Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler are still laid up in Hawkins Memorial Hospital, as they will be for a while—or so Nancy's been told. So it's up to her to look after Holly and Mike, if they'll let her, and deal with the doctors to sort out recovery plans, if they'll listen to her, and clean the house up from that total wreck of a night over a month and a half ago when the world almost ended. And also maybe kind of try to make Christmas feel like anything resembling the stretched out shape of a holiday at all.
Nancy has a lot on her plate. Probably could use something to take her mind off it all.
And Steve's been Christmas shopping anyway, so he may as well look around. Just in case.

Will flinches, and Mike hates himself for it immediately.
