Summary
[SPOILERS TO C4E18.]
“I never really thought about it before, but I think I might like pain,” Occtis tells him. “Maybe I even liked it before, but always got too lost in all the other feelings the world had to offer to notice it. But now it’s the only feeling that I have. So I think I want to… possess it. To hold it in my hand and do with it how I see fit.”
It occurs to his social brain that every word of that confession was more alarming than the last, but it has only served to turn Julien’s expression into something avaricious and gleaming. “My ribs are still quite bruised,” he murmurs. “Be my guest.”
Occtis takes a moment to sort through his thoughts on the matter. He can hear voices from the women’s tent, but they sound faraway and untroubled.
“Your pain tolerance is good,” he decides aloud. “I trust you not to make any sound.”
“Of course I can be quiet,” Julien assures him in a honeyed tone. He assumes a more relaxed pose, resting comfortably on his side. “Go on, then. What are you waiting for? I despise cowardice in all its forms—so don’t disappoint me.”

Summary
“You okay there, Hajime-chan?” Okita asked, then bent down and laid his palm on Saito’s forehead and ran it up over his hairline, as if to test his temperature, or perhaps to stroke him as he might a dog.
Saito reached up to take Okita’s wrist in his hand. “I’m fine,” he replied.
Instead of prying the hand away, Saito pressed his thumb to the tendons below Okita’s palm and traced their delicate lines and wondered whether he’d made a mistake. It was one thing to give in to an impulse as they’d done on their first night together. It was another thing altogether to have laid his hands on Okita’s back unasked to tend a wound not of his own making. And he hadn’t imagined that Okita would be so bold as to slip into his room beneath the sun’s harsh gaze, or that he’d find himself leaning into the touch of the man’s proffered palm when he didn’t need the warmth and didn’t intend to push him to anything further.
---
When the Wolves of Mibu sail down to Osaka in pursuit of a group of dangerous rebels, Saito Hajime finds himself distracted: by a terrible fever, by shadows from his past, and above all by his growing affection for one of his fellow captains.

incredibly written canon-compliant Ishin fic, i love the characterizations and also just the flow of a well-told story.

Summary
“What did you think would happen?” Crowley demanded. “If you told me? Finding the boy and stopping Armageddon was my idea from the beginning. You had to be talked into it! What did you think I was going to do if you told me you’d found him?”
“I don’t know!” Aziraphale cried. “You were very keen on killing him—perhaps I thought you would make me do it.”
“When,” Crowley said, “in the entire course of history, have I ever been able to make you do anything?”
On the last night of their lives, Crowley and Aziraphale uncover some lies and unleash some truths.
Aziraphale would give anything to go back and do it differently.
Crowley will take anything he can get.

Summary
“It’s just,” he continued, “I’ve noticed that humans—some humans, anyway—they use that word, angel, as a…well, as a sort of…endearment.”
“Do they?” said Crowley, who had invented using the word as an endearment in the 13th century AD.

Summary
He can’t do this.
“Can I—” he bursts, stops, overflows again. “Would it be too terribly forward of me to ask—”
This is so much. How can small words hold so much? Perhaps he can keep it in, after all. If the words can hold it, maybe he can too. Maybe he won’t crack and rupture.
Or: After the bus ride back from Tadfield and the erstwhile End of the World, Aziraphale reaches his breaking point.
