"...stepping into his space, so close that their bodies were only inches apart, Annabeth looked up at him. He smelled like sweat and sun and salt, and there was a storm beginning to build in his eyes as he frowned at her. She could see that he wasn't nearly as annoyed by her accusation as he was pretending to be - on some level, he probably knew she was right.
"Yep," she said sweetly, watching closely as his arm muscles clenched. "Your form is getting sloppy, Jackson."
Percy's face was a roller coaster of different emotions, but despite the way he shifted his weight, none of them seemed to indicate that he was about to go for his sword. Instead, it mostly looked like he was trying to bite back a retort that wouldn't be appropriate for their youthful audience.
"You don't usually complain about my technique, Chase. Especially when it gets the job done," he finally said pointedly, light voice at odds with the darkness of increasingly dilated pupils and the rising tension in his crooked smile."
Percy is teaching a sword fighting class. Annabeth has some things to say about his methods. This can only end one way, right?

She doesn’t care much for brains or bones, those will turn to dust the minute her shroud is buried, but her soul will remember. Her heartbeat doesn’t rise as it does around him, her body stills, like clay waiting to be molded. He doesn’t say anything, too, trying to understand what she needs, trying to not beg her to stay. She knows when he’s made up his mind when he decides that what she needs is a prayer.
“Come here,” he calls, so softly, like the color of his seagrass eyes, on the day she had met him.
