He also happened to remember the section they did on drugs. A representative from the D.A.R.E. program came and talked and passed out cool t-shirts. Berdly still owned that shirt! And, along with it, he recalled the presentation given on drugs:
More specifically, the section dedicated to marijuana.
“K-Kris, is that…” Little green nugs of pure hallucinogenic power were sitting on that tray. The smell was overpowering, short circuiting Berdly’s brain. Kris just smiled, the little scamp that they were, and nodded.
“Yeah, man. It’s weed.” They said simply.
Kris and Berdly spend the night hanging out. What could possibly go wrong?

Summary
Berdly doesn't understand where this sudden urge came from. It's usually just a territorial response when people get too close to his nest or his treasured trinkets, so why does he feel it when his rival is being mocked for things outside of their feeble control? This is terrible.
Kris hates that they feel like this. Why the hell do they have this urge to just… defend the dumb nerd bird from their class whenever they catch him being made fun of? Why do they want him close at all times?! This sucks.
Or, five times Kris and Berdly experience unexplainable compulsions that directly link to each other, and one time that culminates in a realization for both of them.
