The boy takes a step closer, and Lando forces himself not to flinch. There is no threat in the boy's posture, there’s no reaching hand or hungry gaze, but kindness is a very convincing farce.
"Does it hurt?" the boy asks, and his eyes are on the chain again, on the place where the fine gold links disappear into the skin of Lando's wing.
Lando does not know how to answer that. Yes, it hurts. It always hurts.
