Mel has been having a rough day, only worsened when Becca shows up at the ED as a patient once again. After trying to ask what Becca was diagnosed with, Becca lashes out at Mel. Leaving Mel out of her depth and overwhelmed, and only with Dr. Langdon to comfort her.

“Would you…” he begins, hesitating briefly. “Would you like me to explain it to you, what the letter means and why you reacted so?” he asks, watching her carefully under half-lidded eyes. “Oh, yes” she says, nodding emphatically, her lips stretching into a sudden beaming smile. How silly of me, to think Francis would be upset. He only wants to help, she thinks to herself, feeling a sudden rush of affection for the young prince.
“Are you certain, little Mouse? You are clever enough to understand the subtext behind my speech, are you not?” Mel frowns at the vague nature of his words, again, not totally understanding. But her desire for knowledge outweighs, and she nods in response to Francis’s questioning. “Okay,” Frank says, breaking the tension on his face with a devilish smile.

Summary
Some nights were, naturally, worse than others.
Nights where Frank laid in bed for so long, staring at the ceiling, that it made his heart start to race with anxiety and his back ache and ache and ache no matter how he positioned himself. Nights where his thoughts spiraled out into worst-case-scenarios that seemed so vivid and inevitable that he would have to get up and go to the bathroom, just to turn the light on and look at himself in the mirror to remember what was actually real.
Those were the nights when he wanted the pills again the most: alone in his guest bedroom, trying to wring sleep out of his body like the last few drops of water out of a dirty dishcloth.
He tried not to call Mel on nights like that. He did not always succeed.
