Jason didn’t even remember getting dressed. One moment, he was grabbing his backpack; the next, he was sprinting halfway across campus, sliding into the back row of his 8 AM lecture, barely even winded.
Then his classmate gave him a look. Then two classmates did. Then three.
Then someone muttered, “Dude, if you’re gonna cosplay Red Hood, at least carry the helmet. Coward.”
Jason blinked.
He looked down.
There was a red bat across his chest.
Oh no.
In which Jason goes viral after accidentally showing up to class in his Red Hood gear. Dick tries to make it better. Tim might have made it worse. The rest of his siblings are just enjoying the memes.

Jason doesn’t talk to his dad anymore.
He doesn’t know why it only just hits him. He’s in the horror section of his favorite book store downtown. It’s his lunch break, and the shift lead likes him, so he gets a few extra minutes to window shop. He’d seen the new Stephen Graham Jones in the display case, an ominous orange red, a record needle stretching across a bleak expanse, and he’d gone in, listening to the far off chime of the door bell.
He’s just got it in his hands, the feel of the velvet dust jacket on his fingertips, the smell of warm pastry from the instore cafe, when it hits him.
Jason doesn’t talk to his dad anymore, and he hasn’t really talked to him in years.

And when that broke beyond all repair he carried on with his fingers, whispering into her back the stories Dad had used to send him off to sleep. He did this again and again until he forgot what A/C felt like. Until he got caught on snarls he couldn’t fix. Until his throat choked on the tales of simpler monsters.
That was the first time life tried to tell him that love wasn’t always enough.
It wasn’t the last time he chose not to listen.

He could see the words but what it said made no sense. He pulled the paper out of her hands and looked at the letters. They should have been there. There was a photo, but he couldn’t look at it. It was like the image had been censored from his mind.
Dick didn’t understand what he was reading. Kory reached forward and pulled the paper from his hands.After a strange night in Gotham where fake Batman is found dead, the paper prints the story announcing to the world that the Knight of Gotham is dead, leaving Bruce picking up the pieces as his family hears the news.

There's no way he could pass for Dick’s actual brother and he’s got the face of a shell-shocked cartoon mouse — but not the cutesy mice, the ones in the old 80's movies that gave Dick nightmares as a child. That plus the fact the Drake kid’s got a thick New Jersey accent he can’t shake and that Dick doesn’t look grown-up enough to be toting around a preteen is sure to get people asking questions. Or worse. So Dick hauls Tim in by the strap on his backpack, steps onto the shoulder, sticks his thumb skyward toward the cloudless cornflower blue of middle America in summer, and prays whoever pulls over lies somewhere boring on the sliding scale between serial killer and snitch.
Dick Grayson turns 20 on March 20th, Jason Todd dies on April 27th, and by May 23rd, Bruce Wayne's ward-not-son is rattling around in the bed of a 1979 Ford F-150 heading anywhere but Gotham, New Jersey. Wayne money and Bat technology can't find him, but he's got a bug-eyed shadow and a raw Robin-shaped wound to haul across the continental United States.

He corrals them out of sight and into a cab, by repeating the murmured It’s fine we are OK like a mantra and doesn’t let go of Bruce’s hand as they walk up towards the imposing shadow of Wayne Manor. He rarely takes this path by foot, especially nowadays, but tonight he couldn’t bear the thought of leaving Bruce to trudge on alone.
Jason and Bruce get cornered by a mugger one night, at an alley. Jason thinks they are fine, until Bruce collapses behind him, and they deal with the aftermath when they are both feeling more than a little raw.
Alternatively, Jason guards Bruce as fiercely as Bruce guards Jason.

“What am I missing?” Jason asked, his brow furrowing and letting annoyance creep into his tone. He didn’t care for his father’s mind games.
“Jay, lad,” Bruce began, quietly, and Jason wanted nothing more than for his father to just spit it out. His hand twitched, as though he wanted to take Jason’s, or maybe put a reassuring hand on his shoulder like he used to. He didn’t.
Jason wasn’t sure whether he was glad or disappointed.
“What?” He exclaimed with a huff, falling back onto his pillow to glare at the ceiling. “It can’t be that bad.”
The silence that followed only served to unsettle him more.
“When you were injured, it was as a civilian.”
Or alternatively; Jason wakes up in the hospital after an accident, the doctors have identified him as the long lost son of Bruce Wayne, and he's forced to not only figure out how to navigate his (very public) personal life, but also the broken relationship with his father.
