Summary
Cody's path to treason had been sewn in a thousand tiny insults, until the indignities small and large accumulated into a moral injury so vast he could no longer fight for the Republic.
Had it started two years ago on Coruscant, when Senator Amidala had approached him about the clone citizenship bill, and Cody had become suddenly aware that none of his men had legal rights in the Republic they fought to defend? No: at that time, though dim, the fire of rebellion already burnt in his heart. Farther back, then: had it started in a star ship above that first battle of Geonosis, desperately coordinating troop movements as he realized none of the Jedi had any clue what they were doing? But this wasn’t quite right either: the realization of the Jedi's faults came more as a resigned weariness than shock.
So, then, the only place left to look for the first tinder of rebellion were in the creche, listening to the Wookie nursemaids singing lullabies of their destroyed forest homes. The mournful growls must have sparked something fierce and defiant in Cody’s heart, even as far back as then.
The clones were raised by displaced Wookies. It changes everything. -

Ezra was humming as he cooked, the sound of eggs sizzling on the fryer a stacatto rhythm to his tuneless drone; Luke loved the man but even he could admit his partner couldn’t hold a tune if you offered him all the water on Tatooine. But it always brought a smile to Luke’s face to hear Ezra's off key warbling no matter how unrecognizable Ezra made the song. It meant his husband was happy.
Ezra tapped the spoon against the side of the frying pan to knock the egg off it; the pointed noise a clear cue to Luke that his laziness wouldn’t be indulged much longer. Luke stretched one last time and threw off the covers, wandering over to find Ezra standing by the tiny galley counters, plating the food onto dishes for them.
Luke crowded up to Ezra's back, wrapping his arms around his waist and kissing his neck.
“Mmmm,” Ezra greeted him, turning his face to share a sweet kiss with Luke. “Good morning.”Luke and Ezra search the Galaxy for Force Sensitives, and for one Force sensitive in particular.

This is more or less a character study of who I imagine Padme Amidala could have been. In this weird little story Naboo is governed by a little bit of collectivism, stirred thickly some democracy but with theocracy for a base layer. Sharp eyes will catch very heavy themes of Tibetan Buddhism; all errors in relating some very small part of this very wide and deep religion are all my own.I may eventually combine this into a series all relating to the themes of how various characters in the prequel trilogy searching for freedom; whether that freedom is personal, spiritual, political, or all of the above.
