“And what are you going to do about it?”
Emmett stood tall, slightly shorter than the man he had once admired, refusing to be intimidated.
“You will lose everything. That is a promise.”
His forgotten glass of whiskey made a soft click when it came into contact with the wooden desk.
“I suggest that you leave.”
“Gladly.”
Emmett made for the door, fuming.
“Don’t get involved, Emmett. You will regret it.”
He turned back.
“I seriously doubt that.”

And there was a moment where he was lost in her eyes. It was almost overwhelming how pure her expression was; he was so used to being around aspiring lawyers, around Callahan, that he sometimes forgot that there were still honest people out there. He swallowed away all of the things he wanted to say, because it felt stupid to tell her 'thank you.' Instead, he turned to look at her desk-turned-vanity. It really had only been a moment, but if he didn't know better he'd have thought it was an eternity.
He needed to stop thinking about her. They wouldn't be compatible, anyway.[or: 5 times Emmett tried to stop himself from falling in love with Elle, and 1 time he realized he'd fallen a long time ago]
