For her entire schooling career, Shauna had always topped every English class she sat – hell, she had only ever checked the rankings for the joviality of it, knowing it would be a much needed boost to her self-esteem. But, then again, who could she admit these wicked pleasures? No one. It was terrible.
If she maintained her position of second place, she was positive the thoughts of inadequacy would drive her mad. Besides, she wasn’t about to let some pretty soccer chick steal away the only thing she was truly exceptional at (which was a lie, because she’d actually been getting consistent A’s in practically all her subjects; but it was more romantic to paint herself as an idiot savant, than a polymath.).

TLDR; Shauna has a victim complex and creates a Disney Villian-esque plan to dethrone Jackie, because you can't be prettier AND smarter than Shauna (she might get a boner).

Silence. Cicadas chirping. Mosquitos buzzing. Nat’s dark, choppy hair is framed by the porchlight, like a halo; the red smear across her lips reminds her of a vampire, and in a way, she is. Sucking the secrets out from Shauna like a leech, but Shauna doesn’t mind all that much. Nat’s easy to talk to, easier when they’re both drunk and pissed and wanting. Easy to kiss, too.
