Summary
Mermaid’s Tear, Blood of a Thousand Men
Forced into a life of slavery since the age of 10, Jeongguk overcomes the obstacles necessary to escape the Im clan and begin his journey toward freedom as a commoner. But freedom comes at a high price—one that those in power are accustomed to exacting with blood.
“Want some advice?” He wasn’t even looking at Jeongguk. His gaze was fixed somewhere out on the open ocean—perhaps on the sun’s reflection on the tide or on a cloud. Though his options weren’t many, because the only thing visible for miles around were the different shades of blue. As always, he wore his usual bored expression, as if talking to Jeongguk disgusted him and his time with him were an act of charity to earn the favor of some god. “You have no money, no power, no value.” Do you expect others to feel sorry for you because of what you went through? Nobody cares. So swallow all the resentment and hatred you feel. Because there’s nothing you can do with it for now.”
[This is an original work but inspired by the Chinese drama “The Story of the Pearl Girl,” because I can’t get over its plot. Someone hug me, Its been a year.]
