Dennis feels himself collapse inwardly. This was everything he didn’t want, everything he had feared as soon as he packed up all of his and Brian’s things and drove away from all his son had ever known. He wanted things to be the same, exactly the same as before he left, and fine, he knows that he’s a father now so obviously things are different - but so much had changed for Dennis over the last year, was it so hard to ask for one thing to stay the same? For his friends, the only people he’s ever truly felt like he belonged with, to view him the same way as before?
or, Dennis returns to Philly with Brian and tries out being a single father. Obviously, Mac gets in the way.

Dennis melts into it, but Mac quickly detaches Dennis from him, sitting down and joining Dee in rubbing his back. He gingerly lifts his pant leg to see the full extent of the injury. Dennis starts at the contact, his eyes welling up as the ankle gets jostled."

But Mac has known him long enough to know that he has a low tolerance for illnesses and can hardly cope with feeling sick at all once he allows himself to accept it. Knows that he craves comfort and intimacy. He never likes to have Mac more than a few feet away, and Mac loves it more than almost anything else in the world.
