Summary
Left behind was a jumble of stuff that’d accumulated on the top of his dresser over the years. A Little League trophy from when he was ten, the crumpled character sheet from the single D&D session he'd sat through for Dustin, a yoyo with a string he’d never bothered to untangle, a collection of ticket stubs from movies he’d seen with Nancy, loose change, the tassel from his graduation cap.
But the only thing that would make him pause, feel a pang of guilt when he saw it lying crinkled and abandoned on the ground, was a plain brown envelope, his name printed neatly on the front and the contents still unread.

Summary
It all started with a few shots and some bad intentions. It was some late summer night at a house Steve didn’t recognize. There was music that thrummed in his bones. Steve ended up in bed, a little tipsy, with a girl named Sarah. She was in his biology class sophomore year, but they hadn't spoken until tonight. They didn't really have any intention of speaking again after tonight either. Until Steve is staring down at a little blue plus sign some weeks later, pale as a ghost.
“What are we gonna do?” He asks breathlessly.
“I can't get an abortion, but I… I don't want a kid, Steve. I think adoption is the only option,” Sarah tells him, fiery locks tucked back into a ponytail.
The thought of his kid out there, being raised by someone else, and not being part of it twists his stomach. Steve may be terrified, but that fear pushes him into the jungle of fatherhood not away from it.
“I’ll take it,” he announces.
