Summary
Neo has come to accept the uncertain superposition of his identity just as he's come to accept that this world both is and isn't real, just as he's learned to navigate Thomas' real-world real-life real-real job even when the static in his vision and memory-storage errors and glitches and bugs are always there beneath the surface, a program running in the background. Simultaneous, dual-processing. He gets good at holding two things at once inside his head: Thomas and Neo, Real and Unreal, True and False.
-
Neo, on navigating transgenderism, intimate relationships, and identity through a psychotic psyche.

Summary
"Please," Loki gasps, staring at Bartleby's arm, his hands gripping the sides of the chair, knuckles going white.
"And here you were so against it," Bartleby says, voice edged with a minute manic mirth. He takes a deep breath, and then, even and serious: "Do you trust me?"
Loki, too, needs a second to collect himself. He swallows hard. "Yes."
Bartleby's hand pulls back, then swiftly stabs the knife into Loki's gut.
-
Bartleby goes people-watching and comes back with a few ideas.

Summary
Mike throws up his hands in protest, watching his character get knocked out on screen. "C'mon, that was so not fair."
"Mike, always keep your guard up." Jayden says in lieu of a greeting, setting his bag down by the door.
Mike swiftly shifts the topic back to him, fingers tapping idly on his leg. "What kept you so long, anyway?"
"Beetles."
Or: Jayden's research interests sparks a fixation on beetles, and the stress of the assignment starts getting to him.

Summary
"Oh, is it that paper you've been complaining about all week?"
"No, it's not," Alex says snappily, automatically deploying his signature sarcastic denial. "God. Yes, of course it is."
Jay, who's spent so much time around Alex that he's used to his typical snark, isn't very bothered by the words, but he still feels the urge to comment on it. "Okay, I think your asshole levels are rising to the uncooperative range."
–
Alex has a paper due, and hanging out with the others is positively, absolutely, not at all a distracting and unproductive place to work.

Summary
Jay wakes up suddenly and all at once.
One moment he’s stuck in his own sleep, trapped in a horrible nightmare, and the next he’s sitting up, tired eyes staring at a dingy hotel room wall and trying to make sense of the shapes in the dark.
It takes a moment for reality to set in, for Jay to recognize where he is, to remember he’s in a hotel, breathing, alive.
