Summary
Brady shakes his head, speaking to Buck, “You’ll never get rid of him. He follows you around like a lost puppy looking for scraps.”
And Bucky can’t really argue with that so he shrugs and plays into it, says, “I’ve been thinking of moving to Casper, Wyoming. See what all the charm is. Long as I can dodge the dog catchers I might make a life for myself there.”
Buck snorts next to him.

Summary
“Look,” John says slowly, turning back towards Gale. His voice is pitched low, slow like he meant every word, “Not to dredge up the previous conversation or nothin’ but I really mean it. We can put that in the trunk. Bury it in the backyard. Not make it weird. I’d like us to be friends.”
Finding himself fighting a smile again, Gale presses a finger to his lips, “You seem like a good sort of guy to have as a friend.”
John’s eyes crinkle up as he smiles, dragging the expression all over his face in laugh lines, “Oh, I’m the best.”

Summary
He gets no answer from Gale and his worry and frustration leak into his next words.
“You’ve been gone for three weeks and now you're hiding from me in the same damn room.”
He pulls a chair closer and sits heavily in it. When he settles, he’s close enough that his knees brush Gale’s thigh.
“I’m not hiding,” Gale speaks to his lap. “I don’t want to talk about this.”
“About what?”
Gale looks up at him and Bucky can see the fragile pieces of the mask he usually wears trying to fall into place, but it’s not working. He’s too sick, too tired, too everything to don it right now. It crumples and Bucky is looking into two sky blue pools of misery.
“What is it?” He keeps his voice firm but his eyes open and gentle, encouraging. Gale coughs, clears his throat and looks back down.

Summary
Bucky nods toward the empty space. It’s smaller than a coffin. Gale had a growth spurt last year. “You wanted an abduction, kid, not a vacation.”
Gale resents the word kid. Bucky doesn’t look much older than him. His brain keeps picking up on the most insignificant details to stress over. “I did. I do. But-”
Bucky wags his finger. He’s still smiling, and there really isn’t any malice in it as he says, “my rules now, yeah? C’mon, cowboy. Get in the trunk.”
