Summary
The movie has a happy ending: the bikers and the surfers learn to get along to save Big Mama’s. But Will is currently looking for a way to satisfy his curiosity, and Nico doesn’t have the musical prowess or surfing skills necessary to keep him here– or even the brains to follow him to a graduate school close to wherever he’s going.
Will is going to leave. It’s going to hurt. It’s hurting already.
Teen Beach Movie AU: In the spring semester of their senior year of college (Wichita State, go shockers!), Will is solidifying his med school plans, and Nico is trying to figure out what the hell people do with a philosophy degree. It takes a freak thunderstorm sucking them into Romeo and Juli-Wet, the 1950s campy film-experience that brought them together, for them to stop avoiding the inevitable.

“And you said you went to GSAS,” Nico replies, pronouncing the acronym as gee-sas. “Gourdmore School for the Arts and Sciences.”

“Will, we went to high school together.” Nico punctuates his statement by pivot turning, his boots squeaking, and puking his guts into the sink.
Will and Nico had a passionate, two month relationship at fourteen, but it all fell apart into violent hatred when Nico stood Will up at the homecoming dance and then disappeared after winter break. Thirteen years later, Will is a doctor and Nico has a masters in social work, and they keep running into each other at their most embarrassing moments.

Summary
“Nico, right?” his Big Sib says once they’re close. The basketball hoop’s shadow separates them. Nico will keep it that way. He doesn’t respond to his Big Sib, just nods. “Cool. I’m Percy,” his Big Sib says. Nico looks up from his shadow expecting to find a hand to shake, and instead finds Percy’s fist, ready to be bumped.
Nico bumps it. One of his knuckles bumps against a silver ring.
“Nice to meet you,” Percy says. Nico doesn’t believe him.
Percy Jackson was Nico's Big Sib when he started sixth grade at Saint Peter's Catholic School for Boys. Six years later, there's venom between them. But now that Percy's band, Killer Quest, wants to team up with Nico's anonymous music identity the Ghost King, Nico has to reckon with what his sixth grade crush has become.

Will can't stop the tears that, once again, begin to stream from his eyes as he drags Nico into the Hades Cabin and slams the door. He can hear the crowd of campers outside the door, but can't bring himself to listen.

His back hits the cold door, rough as he slides down to the floor. He discards the offending box to the floor, but he can still see it in his periphery. Fuck. He pushes fists into his streaming eyes and takes a few deep breaths before he can find it in himself to speak.
"Does this mean you want to break up?" Even in the flickering lamplight of the Hades cabin, Will can see as Nico's eyes widen and his face grows pale.
Or...
Five times Will knew he was in a relationship with Nico and one time he realized he wasn't.

“Nico,” he croaks, eyes sliding shut again, “It’s two in the morning.”
His eyelids reflect the flash of Nico’s grin. “You sound like a cowboy.”
Will’s eyes pop open, and his face burns. He rockets straight up, shoving his best friend, who is laughing. Crosses his arms.
“I damn well do —” He stops, catching himself. Nico snickers. He scowls, and enunciates his words carefully. “No, I don’t.”
“Like Johnny Cash,” Nico says sagely, because he’s a jerk. “Didja just roll in from town, pardner?”
Will scowls and goes back to sleep.
Except, he doesn’t. Because Nico’s laugh is low and raspy, and the mattress dips by Will’s hip, where he leans against it. Where he rubs his palm over Will’s blanket-covered arm, making him shiver. Where he presses in close. Where the warm puff of his toothpaste-scented breath tickles the curve of Will’s ear.

“I don’t even really need a future,” Will reasons. He leans forward hopefully. “You can just buy me a palace somewhere and I can eat grapes in bed forever while you read to me, right?”
Nico swallows. It takes a few tries. His discipline makes a brief reappearance to laugh again, and this time it brings his dignity — impressive, he hasn’t seen that in two years eight months fourteen days and half an hour, not that he has been counting or anything.
“If that’s what you want,” Nico rasps. He quickly tries to recall the various real estate listings Demeter had passive aggressively thrown at him while muttering about millennials these days. There was a palace somewhere in Serra San Bruno, he thinks?? Fuck. That would work. Right? They grow grapes there he is pretty sure.

"Fine," he concedes. "Whatever, she-demon. Let's just -- fix up, and then we'll figure it out."
"We can't stay in here," she reminds him. "You're a homing beacon and they hate me personally. I won't be bringing a horde of demons to a hospital."
"All good?" inquires Will, slipping in the room. "I got the files, moved as fast as I --" his leg brushes Nico's knee as he hustles past, and he pauses. He turns to face them both, eyes narrowed, hands on his hips. Nico freezes and has the sudden and long-buried feeling that he's in a principal's office. "Were you two roughhousing?"
Reyna's jaw drops.
"You are critically injured. In a hospital." Will shakes his head, face creased. "And you were roughhousing." He scoffs. "I have six year old patients who are less inclined to that nonsense, y'all, c'mon. Do I need to treat you separately?"
"No!" they blurt at the same time, meeting each other's eyes to mouth: how did he know??
