(alternatively: the modern era is fucked unless the demon slayer corps can pull a miracle out of its ass, takemichi teeters between tears and rage 24/7, the majority of the hashira have family issues duct tape and glue probably can't fix despite pretending otherwise, most demons are still horrible, mikey's a little obsessed, and kanae's reincarnation haunts the narrative.)

He shifts, coerces, teases, until the organ sits more in his palm than the boy's chest and then with all the violence of a lover, pulls it from the cavity. It’s warm in his hands. It’s soft and fleshy and filled with life and devotion. Mikey closes his eyes, and narrows the gap between their lips, replacing the stolen heart with a feather kiss.
“Ahn?”
Mikey’s eyes shoot open. He slowly sits back up, careful to keep his face neutral. Takemitchy’s eyes are open, trained on him but sightless. He drags his eyes down Takemitchy’s frozen frame to the gory mess he’s made. He flicks his eyes back up, away from the exposed gash sharp with broken ribs. Takemitchy’s mouth parts as if to speak. The heart beats, insistently, steadily. It’s perverse. Mikey’s mouth goes dry.

After waking up, they swear to fix the world they live in so no one else has to suffer. Neither expected the darkness inside Mikey to stick around, for it to metastasize into something else. Now Mikey's mind is against him, his reality flickering in and out as he tries desperately to not ruin the best thing he has.
