Summary
Rory rushedly grabs her folder and shuffles out of Richie’s cubicle. She leans over to murmur, “Richard, we cannot succumb to misery.”
Richie returns to his chair, spinning around once for good measure. “How do you suggest we achieve this?”
Rory thinks for maybe six seconds. “We’re gonna go on… a date.”
“Rory,” Richie deadpans.
“Like a lavender marriage.” She raises her eyebrows, like she’s having an unacknowledged stroke of genius. "I just want us to go out, have a good time, and pretend men don’t exist for a night.”
Richie slowly raises a hand to ask a question.
“You’re the only one,” she huffs.
“You’re making this so complicated.” A smile traces Richie’s lips despite the absurdity of her idea. She picks up on the shift in demeanour and grins.
“I’ll pick you up at eight, baby.” She makes a clicking noise and pats his shoulder. Richie feigns disgust and shudders.or:

They say a Killjoy can't last more than 48 hours in Battery City.
Party Poison is starting to believe that's true. She's on what the Killjoys call her 47th, meaning she's got one hour left to get out of here. That is, if she's lucky.
Usually, she wouldn't venture into the city alone, and she never has before today. Any Killjoy with a brain knows that's a stupid idea.

Summary
Back to the game, back to Max. Richie has been to a few of Max’s games before, and he always hates it when they're all so close together. It feels like there are so many opportunities for somebody to be shoved too hard. Maybe somebody falls the wrong way, snaps a bone in two. That’s Richie’s worst case scenario, excluding the unthinkable.
Max is a little too involved in this scuffle for Richie to be comfortable. It doesn’t look like it’s supposed to be happening. This doesn’t look like friendly competition. Richie stands up and presses his hands against the glass, trying to take in a full breath and only managing shaky half ones.
An opposing player shoves Max hard and Richie feels his heart jolt. Josh tries to stifle a gasp. Everybody else stops talking to look. Max staggers a little, his disorientation apparent even from all the way down there. He doesn’t shove back. Richie’s heart would’ve swelled with pride if he’d had the time.
The same player shoves Max again. This time he crashes into the field like he weighs a tonne. He doesn’t get back up.
