Mark’s shoulders sagged. He sounded so tired. Mark told Donghyuck once that loving him was exhausting. That one had hurt. Donghyuck still thought about it when he couldn’t sleep, when it was late enough and quiet enough that Mark Lee could use the shadows to slip through his defenses.
Weddings were supposed to be a good time. But Maui's too hot, Renjun's a nightmare, Mark Lee is standing there looking as wrecked as the day he left Donghyuck for Vancouver and the space between them is suddenly feeling a lot smaller than an ocean.

Donghyuck finds out he can breathe underwater, after messing up during one of the most important surfing heats of his life. It turns out he’s part mermaid, abandoned as a baby by his mermaid mother. Now, with that knowledge, he needs to decide what matters to him most: his surfing career or the fate of Aquamarina. It also doesn’t help that he has a very observant and obsessed Mark Lee keeping tabs on his whereabouts, whenever he makes trips between the sea and land. (Donghyuck thinks he’s doing a good job at being secretive, though. Ugh, fuck Mark Lee and his sharp and very dreamy eyes. Wait, who said that?!)

With a heavy sigh, Kaveh buried his face in his pillow. All of his romantic ideals, as usual, were quashed by the one man he actually yearned for such affections from - a marriage for the sake of fucking tax deductions.
Though it made sense in a cold, rational way, such a logical and disinterested proposal for Kaveh to willingly sacrifice his heart for nothing more than mora cut deep into his chest. And worst of all... Alhaitham was unaware that Kaveh’s heart could never even belong to anyone but him - that he was already the sole benefactor of Kaveh’s silent longing, having stolen Kaveh’s heart against his will long ago.
Kaveh curled around his pillow as if the soft cotton of his pillowcase could offer a reprieve from the turmoil churning deep in his stomach. He’d long since made peace with his unrequited love for Alhaitham, resigning himself to a lifetime of suppressed yearning - but this? This was torture, plain and simple, demanding mental gymnastics that Kaveh wasn’t confident he was flexible enough to contort himself into.
