“I know it hasn’t been easy, Jake.” His social worker, Mrs. Ben, had explained. Her tone implying that she knew absolutely nothing about what Jake was going through. “But, you have to start trying with your foster parents.” Jake had scoffed at the mere thought that this was his fault. Mrs. Ben had raised an eyebrow at the sound.
“I have been trying,” Jake whispered. This time it was her who let out the scoff.
“You took a baseball bat to your last foster fathers truck and then threatened to take it to his friends and him.” Her voice had a disappointed tone to it, that made Jake bristle.
“He was hurting me,” Jake snarled. Mrs. Ben just gave him a resigned sigh and shake of her head.
“What have we talked about with the lying?” Her condescending voice was grating on his nerves before but now, with her thinking that he is making something like this up, he is ready to snap. He squares his shoulders, like he is ready for this conversation to come to blows.
In other words, Jake is the biological son of the famous mobster Iceman but neither knew it until now. And Jake is as much Mavericks kid as he is Ice's because what belongs to Ice belongs to Mav.

“What the hell—!” Goose yells.
“Contacts!” Slider snaps.
Viper’s voice cracks over the radio, suddenly sharp. “All aircrafts, this is no longer training. I repeat, this is no longer training. Here is Commander Viper from the US Navy. Disengage and identify yourselves immediately!”
“Break formation!” A voice, distinctly Russian, calls into the open line and they split like they already know where every threat in the sky is going to be.
“Bandits followed us,” the same voice says. Russian, cold, controlled, male. Then, with the kind of certainty that makes Goose’s stomach drops: “Holly Wood. Maverick. No engagement with locals until they are dealt with.”
Maverick blinks.
"Copy that, Iceman."
