Summary
It’s almost like — like Buck’s holding a possible thing in his hands, fragile and fledgling, born too early. It’s not the first time he’s felt this way, with Eddie. It’s happened before, mostly in kitchens.
“Did that guy tell you the name of the suite he put us in?”
The corner of Eddie’s mouth lifts. There, Buck supposes, is his answer.
“Yeah. Honeymooners, huh? Should we tell him about our disaster of a trip?”
His stomach lurches. God. Eddie’s taking this in stride; Buck should be thankful for it. Instead, he’s afraid he’ll be sick all over their shoes.
or: a pining buck has to navigate the Emotional Saw Trap that is the road trip back from new mexico. eddie, quite literally, comes along for the ride.

Summary
“That’s literally what the flyer says," Buck points out. "First responders and their partners.”
He gestures between himself and the loft, where Eddie’s upstairs doing something productive and very unaware of what Buck is about to drag him into, and then shrugs like this is all very self-explanatory.
“We’re partners.”
“Yeah, yeah. Of course!" Ravi says, and then slaps Buck on the back with a little too much enthusiasm. “Definitely sounds like you two could benefit from it.”

Summary
“You didn’t do anything wrong,” Chris says quietly. “But you did stop talking to us. And that left a mark.”
Buck swallows.
Chris nudges his knee. “You know, I used to think you and my dad would end up together,” he says.
The words come so out of left-field that Buck gets whiplash from the speed he turns his head.—
Ten years later, Buck sees Chris at a coffee shop.

Summary
Eddie Diaz: father, veteran, firefighter, gay. It’s that easy. A descriptor, a word that Eddie’s spent his entire life running from.
It’s a fucking relief to realise now that he’s stopped running. The burn in his muscles will linger, but it’s okay. It will serve as a reminder of how far he’s come.
Beside him, Buck huffs a laugh. “I can’t believe you did a honky tonk dance.”
Eddie laughs, startled. “I can’t believe you didn’t."
Or: on the drive back to Los Angeles, Eddie works up the courage to tell Buck the truth.
