When Steve showed up to his shift at Family Video wearing a long sleeved jumper and sunglasses, Robin and Eddie made worried eye contact, and demanded to know answers. Steve refuses, giving the vague answer that small towns have small minds, and waves off any concern from his two friends. But when Tommy Hagan comes in and brags to Eddie about beating the shit out of Steve for defending him, Eddie's brain shuts down for a second.
OR
Steve gets beaten up for hanging out the town's most hated innocent man, Eddie Munson. Eddie is not happy about this arrangement, neither is Robin.

Originally for the 2017 MacDennis Big Bang, but alas.
They don’t have a falling out so much as a slowly drifting apart. Being a dad makes Dennis tired, so tired sometimes he feels like he might never have energy again, and that means that he stops checking in with Mac as often. Eventually, they stop talking. Mac gets a boyfriend. Dennis stops taking his medication.
After Dennis attempts suicide, Mandy insists he return to Philadelphia with the gang, and she will follow with Brian Jr. when she can. Faced with an unwanted recovery, a failed family, and feelings he would rather ignore, Dennis is forced to navigate uncharted waters within himself and within his relationship with Mac.

Armitage watches Ren because there’s nowhere else for him to go, because Leader Snoke instructed him to bring Ren and he must guarantee his apprentice reaches a stable condition. He sits down next to the medtable and focuses on Ren’s eyes because it keeps his mind off the breaches in security on Starkiller, the magnitude of lives lost and technology that’s been wiped out in a single day. He listens to Ren’s ragged breathing because it distracts him from the fact that he never heard from Captain Phasma before the evacuation and has no idea where she is, let alone if she was able to get off the base. Armitage watches Ren because focusing on him distracts him from worries of his own mortality.
Armitage tells himself these things because he knows he will ask himself, hours or days or months later, why he stayed.
(Or, the last non-canon compliant "snow rescue" fic before I see The Last Jedi)
