Summary
The Flying Graysons had performed in Gotham for years. Bruce had never gone to see them. They were a little too bright, too flashy, for Bruce’s taste, but they were still a beloved attraction. And Bruce was invited to tonight's charity event where they were going to be performing.
And then, The Grayson's are falling from the trapeze.
Bruce had watched it happen.
All but one, the youngest. Dick.
He was thirteen, Bruce had learned, and a circus performer like the rest of his family. Dick had watched his entire family plummet to their death, right before his very eyes.
The boy was in a state of shock. He couldn’t even speak. He just sat in that police station silent. Bruce had talked to Commissioner Gordon already. The man gave him his office to talk to the boy.
"I got them to release you to my custody." Bruce told the boy.
He nodded.
And that was it. Bruce took him home and gave him the room across from his. Then bid him goodnight. But Bruce wouldn't be sleeping tonight. Neither would Dick.

Summary
He could see it from the day he turned fifteen, when the way he interacted with Bruce started to chafe and rub him the wrong way. It hadn’t meant much to him at the time, had only meant that Bruce spent all that extra time watching him and it made his chest hurt with betrayal. What, he thought that he wouldn’t notice? That he was that bad at being a vigilante he wouldn’t be able to tell when Robin was being tailed on his solo patrol?
And then he turned sixteen and he noticed that even out of the suit Bruce’s gaze lingered longer than it should.
