Summary
It's sort of a good news/bad news situation: the good news is that the ancient cursed flesh monster did not completely destroy New York when it rose from the subway system beneath the red star that heralds the end of days, the bad news is it's still up and kicking.
The in-between news is that none of this is one particular mage's responsibility right now; all she has to do is find one (1) vampire and get him under cover before daylight. Assuming there's going to be daylight.

A more rigorous examination of the events of 0 BBY will show that, while the year is just as pivotal to Galactic history as it usually assumed, the emphasis has often been misplaced. In truth, while the Death Star project did prove to be central to the Galactic Empire’s undoing, the fatal blow came not from DS-01’s destruction at the hands of Luke Skywalker, but from the political implications of the project writ large. It would be going too far to say that the Battle of Yavin was irrelevant, but it would be accurate to say that by the time the Battle Station arrived in the Yavin System, the balance in the Galactic Civil War had already irrevocably shifted, though in ways that would not become apparent for months and years to come.

Summary
Emperor Palpatine dies unexpectedly a year before the Death Star would be deemed operational. His heir apparent, Darth Vader, startles the galaxy by passing up the throne, and then passing it on to the newly-elected Senator of Alderaan, Leia Organa, after the Force leads him to directly to her. The new Empress inherits a terrorized galaxy, a broken Empire to tear down from the inside, and the weirdest second-in-command anyone can imagine.
Or, Vader accidentally hands the galaxy to his rebel daughter, Bail Organa panics professionally, Leia attempts not to get assassinated, and Palpatine rolls in his grave.
