There’s a suspension of belief that Billy is capable of concerning the Devil. If not for the living, breathing Satan that is Homelander then for the Devil sitting on his shoulder, spinning vocation like thread. He should conquer Homelander. He could conquer Homelander. There was nothing and nobody stopping him. Except… how could he do that to Ryan?
Butcher regards the boy still passed out on the other side of the room and the answer comes easily enough—with a lot of guilt and self-loathing.
