Opportunity Knocks by nikkiRA is my favorite fanfic of any fandom ever. perhaps it's the timeloop element. timeloops ARE my favorite trope after all. perhaps it's the laissez-faire way both nico and hades go "what if i kms? hm??" its funny. its cute. its just the right amount of angst. i've read it at least 17 times.

Sally crouched down in front of where Nico sat on the couch, and smiled warmly at him. “Percy tells me you don’t have a place to stay at the moment,” she said, gentle and non-judgemental.
Nico shot Percy an accusatory glare, but he annoyingly didn’t baulk at the daggers Nico was sending him, nor did he show any regret in telling Sally about his personal life. “I’m fine.”
“A brave, independent kid like you? I’m sure you are.”
Sally’s praise shouldn’t have pleased him as much as it did, and Nico had to physically stop himself from preening. When was the last time he had received a compliment from a parental figure?
“But... if you’re looking for a place you can use as a homebase, there is plenty of space for you here.”

if you were drowned at sea, i would give you my lungs so your could breathe by Caora is a series reimagining set after the events of botl where nico had the opportunity to have a family to take him in. the brotherism between percy and nico is strong within this fic and it's so pleasant to read. paul is so sweet here and sally… oh sally the woman you are. they truly opened up their home for nico and wrapped him into their family and while there are still issues at hand and it's not always smooth sailing, it's heartwarming from beginning to end. if you love found family, you’ll love this. it’s only been a day since it came out, but it's a fandom classic waiting to be found. though, i might just think that because i’ve read it 3 times already.
He was a misplaced puzzle piece that belonged in a different box. He didn’t fit in anywhere, and yet he was packed into the box with them anyway, a factory error. This wasn't his picture to complete.

Or - Snippets of Will and Nico's life in a Manhattan apartment as they try to gather enough credits to graduate highschool, while navigating the newfound chance for adulthood post-war.
Or- or- Nico tries to pretend he's not in love with his best friend. This proves to become more difficult once they start spending almost every moment near each other.

not to me - not if its you by rottenpomegranate is an immaculate reimagining of how will and nico get together. set post-canon, after will and nico leave camp to get an actually education, this fic explores their friendship is an almost heartbreaking manner. the intensity of nico's feelings radiates off the... page? screen? with the power of the sun at high noon. i wish i could read this fic again for the first time so i can experience the resolution again. i legit cried a bit (but that surprises no one). even if you aren't a fan of this series, read this.
There's a treacherous voice in Nico's head, screaming how all it wants is to spend eternity picking out utensils with Will Solace. He doesn't voice this.

In this particular story, Boy also happens to be a Prince. The prince - the most important prince in the world. And the boy - the prince - is a hopeless romantic. He was always bound to love again. It’s what makes his story so heartbreaking, in the end.

Treacherous by sherryvalli is a cathartic masterpiece centering everyone's favorite gay prince. him, his heart, and his capacity to love. features my new favorite headcanon and arthur being besties with han solo himself. the prose is fucking immaculate; to quote taylor: 'i want sad prose' and this is it at times. but just like all the best works, it aches of hope and the ending feels like a hug. i had to take a moment after finishing this fic and i let out a sob. something about this hit me in the heart.
It’s the kind of story that lasts and lasts, retold over dinner tables and analysed inside lecture halls and whispered in darkness - a story that transcends time and space and people.
