He thought, with a tendril of something funny in his stomach, that Eddie most likely hadn’t fallen in love with him on the same day he announced it, and so there had been some number of days before that when he was in love with Buck and just taking the feeling on errands with him.

Outside the cracked bathroom door a thudding, electric beat picks up.
“I’ll have to remember that.” Eddie says and he’s not sure what he means but he is sure that the door is part way open and Buck’s mouth is bright pink. Like an oven burn, like a new scar. Something he should not want to touch. Or maybe Buck’s mouth is like a door, opening and closing and providing access to a place he really cannot go, because inside is the scar, the burn, the memory of pain. Maybe Eddie will only know once he goes through.
“You’re staring.”
“What.” Eddie says. “No I’m not.”
